Ysgol Bro Teifi
Ysgol Bro Teifi, Ceredigion is Wales’ first purpose built 3 to 19 year old school. The New Build, 11,000 sqm super school, is located in Llandysul and is Ceredigion County Councils largest ever construction project. The new school merges five schools to form the county’s second ‘all-through’ school.
The build, which will be completed for the 2016/17 academic year, involves the construction of a new two-storey facility to accommodate 1,000 primary and secondary school pupils. The school facilities will include a large hall, sports hall and 47 classrooms including science laboratories and IT facilities. In addition to the general teaching spaces, facilities that will be available to the community include the Main Hall and Stage, drama facilities and catering facilities, which will provide the perfect setting for Eisteddfods, drama productions and other community events.
Prior to the awarding of the contract, Comcen’s direct relationship with the Interactive board manufacturer CleverTouch allowed us to demonstrate their new range to Ceredigion County Council enabling Comcen to show the exceptional benefits and educational advantages offered by the range. Particularly of interest was CleverTouch’s new Welsh Interactive Apps which complements the school’s bi-lingual language policy.
On completion of a competitive tender and coupled with our exceptional service levels, Comcen was awarded the tender to install fifty five CleverTouch Interactive LED panels,
- 26 x Clevertouch Plus 75″ Interactive LED Display 10 Point Touch with AG Glass
- 20 x Clevertouch Plus True 4K LED 84″ 10 point touch with AG Glass
- 9 x Clevertouch plus LED 65″ 10 point touch with AG Glass
All the screens were either fixed or height adjustable wall mounted systems with completion to a faceplate.
Working in partnership with main the contractor, Wilmot Dixon, Comcen worked for four weeks in May 2016, working in conjunction with the other trades and the council LEA. Comcen completed the installation work well within the timescale agreed. The project was managed from conception to completion by a Comcen Prince2 project manager to ensure the project was controlled and delivered effectively.
Our engineers faced a challenge during the installation process when they identified an issue with the height of the interactive board compared with the area planned for the screens on the Teachers Walls. This was rectified by Comcen’s engineers who confirmed the measurements and designed and developed a custom built adjustable bracket, which allowed the 84” board to be maneuvered safely into position.
Following on from the installation work carried out, Comcen in conjunction with Ceredigion County Council will be holding training sessions for all staff to ensure that the users are fully competent and can utilise the boards to their full potential. During the latter part of the year Comcen will also be holding two twilight sessions for staff to provide additional training or as a refresher course.
