Ysgol Bae Baglan
Ysgol Bae Baglan is a £40m development by Neath Port Talbot CBC and is the biggest single investment in school infrastructure in the history of the council. It leads the way for an exciting and challenging approach to delivering education services for pupils between 3-16 years integrated in an “all though” approach.
The school, built by Bouygues UK, offers the latest technology to reform the way teachers and students interact. In the classroom, pupils will access tablets and Macs to use digital notebook software and storytelling apps to create interactive reports.
Comcen, an incumbent supplier for both organisations, tendered for the 100k contract and were awarded the tender for installation of the AV equipment from Bouygues and also were successful in the application for the supply of the AV products from Neath and Port Talbot CBC.
Prior to the awarding of the contract, Comcen arranged a technology day for members of Neath and Port Talbot CBC and the staff from the new school to explore the various options and solutions available from different manufacturers in order to give the best possible solution to fit their needs.
During the first fix, Comcen fitted all the brackets and cabling during the construction of the school to allow a professional finish with all cables hidden from view. The main part of the project saw the installation of 89 x Epson EB-585W ultra short throw projectors which project a 90” diagonal image onto the teaching walls, this was coupled with connecting and mounting the sound bar to the projector
Our engineers also installed Phonak Audio Systems – Roger™ Dynamic SoundField a classroom amplification system featuring industry-leading sound performance combined with plug-and-play simplicity. The loudspeaker allows voice reinforcement and audio enhancement enabling better listening from the pupils, less repetition from the teachers and assists the teachers in developing an orderly classroom. The device digitally transmits its signals, automatically changing frequencies when required in order to eliminate potential interference caused by a building’s existing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks.
The School, awarded Microsoft Showcase School status, specified a core stipulation of the contract was to ensure that there was total WiFi coverage for the whole school campus. Comcen installed 100 wireless access points throughout the campus to guarantee the best possible network coverage. 12 Digital signage screens were installed by Comcen AV engineers throughout the school to allow for effective communication and display vital student information. Using Panasonic’s 43” large format displays and embedded Sedao digital signage software the school can display flexible and professional messaging to attract and engage staff, pupils and visitors.
Training sessions were held for staff to familiarize them on the use of the Seado digital signage software and functionality of the Epson projectors.
