The NHS is under increasing pressure to meet patient expectations and government targets while insuring quality of care. NHS Wales designed a change strategy to deliver more effective and reliable unscheduled care – The National Patient Flow Programme. The goal; to ensure better flow through the health and social care system in NHS Wales for urgent and emergency care patients.

ABM approached Comcen, as a trusted supplier, to assist with the implementation of the initial phase of their Patient Flow Program. After consultation Comcen’s AV/IT specialists recommended the installation of Ergotron Sit/Stand mounts within the A&E cubicles and larger commercial LG LED displays as central information access points linking up to all the individual patient cubicles. This recommendation took into consideration ease of use, budget considerations and more importantly space saving solutions to work in critical areas.

On acceptance Comcen was commissioned to install the equipment in the A&E departments within Morriston Hospital – Swansea, Princess of Wales Hospital – Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot Hospital – Port Talbot.

The critical nature of ABM’s A&E departments dictated that Comcen’s engineers deployed a high degree of flexibility. They worked directly with the department staff and scheduled work to be carried out at convenient times. As Patient needs were a priority the engineers worked in a way that meant they could vacate the cubicles quickly when required and recommence as they became available.

Working in direct conjunction with the Health Boards IT department Comcen was able to install the complete solution to allow the Programme to be implemented as quickly and effectively as possible. The full installation was completed to the trusts satisfaction within a 4 week period.
